Professor (em.) Han Meyer (Rotterdam, 1951), has been professor of Theory and Methods Urban Design at the Delft University of Technology and research leader of the NWO project Integrated Planning and Design in the Delta (IPDD), with participation of Deltares, Erasmus University and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. Meyer studied urban planning at Delft. In Rotterdam in the eighties and nineties he was involved in the renovation of neighborhoods as Katendrecht and Charlois in Rotterdam. In 1997 he finished his (Cum Laude) PhD. on City and Port-Transformations of Port Cities. He has published a number of books concerning the fundamentals of the discipline of Urbanism, the present state-of-the-art of Dutch Urbanism and on the transformation of port-cities. His present research focuses on ‘Delta-urbanism,’ considering the possibility of an integrated approach of urban planning and design, hydraulic engineering and port development in delta-areas. In his lecture professor Han Meyer will specifically address his latest insights and research with regard to the role of design in these matters.
